On December 4, at approximately 2:35 p.m., the Azerbaijani armed forces discharged fire against the Armenian combat position in Bardzruni, Vayots Dzor Province. Consequently, a serviceman of the N military unit of MoD of the Republic of Armenia, Gerasim Avetik Arakelyan, sustained a fatal gunshot wound. An investigation is currently in progress to comprehensively elucidate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Ministry of Defence extends its condolences to the family members, relatives, and fellow servicemembers of the deceased soldier.

The health status of the servicemember is currently evaluated as stable but in a serious condition. Presently, there is no immediate peril to the life of the wounded servicemember. An inquiry is in progress to comprehensively ascertain the particulars surrounding this incident.

On November 30, the certification process of the first cohort of high-ranking and senior officers of the Armed Forces reached its conclusion at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. On the final day of certification, the participants' professional skills and knowledge of official duties were examined through questionnaires. Welcoming and extending best wishes to the generals and high-ranking officers engaged in the certification process, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia- Chairman of the First Certification Commission, Suren Papikyan, expressed his assurance that they will successfully pass the theoretical examination. Consequently, their comprehensive assessment will be determined based on the total results.

The sixth Armenian-British defence strategic consultations were held

On November 28, the sixth Armenian-British defence strategic consultations were held in London. The Armenian delegation was led by the Head of the Defence Policy and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ayvazyan. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Varuzhan Nersesyan also attended the meeting. The discussions covered issues related to regional and international security, as well as cooperation in defence field. Levon Ayvazyan briefed the British partners on the current security situation around Armenia and the steps taken by the Armenian side in the context of regional peace and stability, including the "Crossroads of Peace" project. The discussions also delved into comprehensive reforms within the Armed Forces. Both parties thoroughly discussed the current status and development prospects of bilateral defence cooperation, underscoring the significance of cooperative endeavors across various domains and the readiness to implement the agreements reached. Following the consultations, the Head of the Defence Policy and International Cooperation of the MoD of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ayvazyan, and the Director, Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, David Morgan signed a program on the Armenian-British defence cooperation for 2023-2024. An agreement was reached to hold the seventh defence strategic consultation in Yerevan.

The course of the examination was observed by the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia-Chairman of the First Certification Commission, Suren Papikyan. Welcoming and wishing success to the servicemembers voluntarily involved in the certification process, the Minister conveyed conviction that the participants are expected to maintain the same high standards as they demonstrated in the preceding evaluations of physical and shooting readiness.

On November 28, the shooting training test of the high-ranking and senior officers’ certification program of the Armed Forces was held in one of the military training centers of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. RA Minister of Defence- Chairman of the First Certification Commission Suren Papikyan and and the First Deputy Minister of Defence- Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan observed the examination process. At the end of the exam, Minister Papikyan, addressing the generals and high-ranking officers voluntarily involved in the certification program, emphasized that the positive impact of the certification obviously increased the combat readiness of the Armed Forces.

On November 27, the certification process of the first cohort of high-ranking and senior officers of the Armed Forces commenced in the administrative complex of the RA Ministry of Defence. The examination process was coordinated by the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia- Chairman of the First Certification Committee, Suren Papikyan. Welcoming and wishing success to the servicemembers voluntarily involved in the certification process, the head of the Defence Agency emphasized the importance of the participation of the high-ranking and senior officers of the Armed Forces in the aforementioned exams stressing that every general and high-ranking officer holding a command position should be an example for his colleagues and subordinates. Within the four-day certification, the participants will pass exams on physical, drills, and shooting training, as well as knowledge of professional skills.

On November 18, at around 09:50 a.m., a soldier of the N military unit of the MoD of the Republic of Armenia, E. H. received a gunshot wound in the wake of the shot fired by the Azerbaijani armed forces against the Armenian combat outposts near Paruyr Sevak. The health condition of the serviceman is assessed as moderate, with no danger to life at present. An investigation is underway to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.

On November 17, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan and the Minister of Defence of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and paid tribute to the memory of the victims. The ministers laid a wreath at the memorial and flowers at the Eternal Flame in memory of the innocent martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.

Suren Papikyan received the Minister of Defence of Georgia

On November 17, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan received the Minister of Defence of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze at the premises of the Ministry of Defence, who had arrived in Armenia on an official visit. During the welcoming ceremony, the national anthems of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia were played. An expanded meeting was followed after the tête-à-tête conversation of the defence ministers. The interlocutors highly valued the current status of cooperation. Issues related to Armenian-Georgian defence cooperation and regional security were discussed. The sides presented the details on ongoing reforms in the armed forces of the both countries. Following the official meeting, a bilateral cooperation plan between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defence of Georgia was signed by the Defence Ministers. Afterwards, the Minister of defence of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze planted a personalized spruce on the territory of the administrative complex of the MoD.
