On January 9th, at approximately 6:20 a.m., the corpse of contract soldier Karen Arayik Karapetyan was discovered, bearing a gunshot wound, within the N combat position at the guard station of the N military unit affiliated with the Ministry of Defence. An investigation is being conducted to comprehensively elucidate the circumstances surrounding this incident. The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia extends its sincere condolences and unwavering support to the family members, relatives, and comrades of the deceased serviceman.

On December 18th, bilateral consultations were conducted between Armenia and Greece, as well as between Armenia and Cyprus, alongside trilateral discussions involving Armenia, Greece, and Cyprus, held at the premises of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. The delegations were led by distinguished representatives. The Head of the International Organizations Section of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Brigadier General Vasileios Tsamis, led the Greek delegation. On the Cypriot side, the Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Cyprus National Guard General Staff, Colonel Alkiviadis Alkiviadis, headed the Cypriot delegation. These consultations encompassed a comprehensive review of the outcomes stemming from the official visits of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, to the Republic of Cyprus and the Hellenic Republic. Discussions further delved into the course of bilateral and trilateral cooperation, alongside considerations of regional and international security issues. The head of the Department of Defence Policy and International Cooperation of the MoD of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ayvazyan presented a detailed overview of the ongoing reforms within the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia to his colleagues. Concluding the consultations, the participating parties formalized agreements by signing the Armenia-Greece, Armenia-Cyprus, and Armenia-Greece-Cyprus Military Cooperation Programs for 2024. These programs encompass a myriad of measures in areas of mutual interest.

In the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Cyprus on December 13th, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan visited the Tomb of Makedonitissa. Therein, he laid a wreath at the memorial dedicated to Cypriot and Greek soldiers who have died for the defence of Cyprus. The participants of the event honored the memory of those who died for the motherland with a minute of silence. Subsequently, Minister Papikyan paid his respects at the monument commemorating individuals who laid down their lives for the independence of Cyprus at the "Imprisoned Graves" memorial site. Here, too, he placed a wreath in solemn remembrance.

From December 5 to 6, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Sargsyan, participated in the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial held in Accra, Ghana. This biennial event, organized by the UN, serves as a platform for comprehensive discussions on international peacekeeping issues. Deputy Minister Arman Sargsyan delivered a speech during the meeting, reiterating Armenia's commitment to continuous training and deployment of forces for international peacekeeping missions. On the sidelines of the event, Arman Sargsyan engaged in a working meeting with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Programs and Operations, Rachel Schiller and Director of Global Peace Operations Initiative Jennifer Pulliam. The meeting covered various aspects of bilateral cooperation. This week marked the commencement of the certification process for the second subgroup comprising senior and high-ranking officers of the Armed Forces, taking place at the premises of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. On the initial day of certification, December 4, officers passed the physical fitness exam. The examination procedures were overseen by the RA Minister of Defence, Suren Papikyan, and the First Deputy Minister of Defence-Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan. The officers were evaluated on their performance in pull-ups on the horizontal bar, body flexion exercises, as well as 100m and 1km running tests. Extending a warm welcome and conveying best wishes to the military personnel engaged in the certification process, Minister Suren Papikyan underscored the significance of senior officers' participation. He emphasized that generals and high-ranking officers in command roles should exemplify a positive standard in their combat training, setting an influential example for their subordinates. The head of the Defence Agency expressed confidence that participants would exhibit the same elevated level of training demonstrated by military personnel in the first subgroup of senior officers during the previous week's certification. On December 5, at one of the military training grounds of the RA Ministry of Defence, the second examination focused on fire training—a crucial element in the certification process for senior officers of the Armed Forces. The examination procedures were observed by the First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan. He expressed confidence in the officers undergoing certification, anticipating their precise targeting and a demonstration of exemplary fire training skills. The active phase of examinations continues, with forthcoming assessments in drills and vocational training.
