Suren Papikyan had a telephone conversation with Colin Kahl
On June 2, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan had a telephone conversation with US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. Colin Kahl. A range of issues related to the situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and regional security were discussed. The process of implementation of the agreements related to the development of the defense cooperation, reached during the discussions with Dr. Kahl, that took place during the visit of the Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan in September 2022, was discussed.

The release of Azerbajani Defence Ministry, as if the units of RA Armed Forces opened fire against the Azerbaijani combat positions located in the eastern part of the border zone on June 2, at 12:25 p.m., doesn’t correspond to reality.

ԱվելինThe visit of mass media representatives to the northeastern border zone
On May 30, the Ministry of Defence of the RA organized the visit of accredited mass media representatives to the northeastern border zone of the Republic. The mass media representatives watched the implementation of daily routine training in the N military unit of MoD and had talks with servicemembers and officers. Afterwards, the accredited journalists visited the frontier and got acquainted with the process of combat alert duty which was followed by interviews with the personnel on duty. At the end of the day, the representatives of the mass media accredited to cover the activities of the MoD had a meeting with the press secretary of the Minister of Defence at the Мilitary and sports college named after Мonte Мelkonyan.

ԱվելինThe Minister of Defence received Ambassador of Kazakhstan
On May 31, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan received Bolat Imanbayev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Armenia, and Colonel Y. Sapenov, the newly appointed defence attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Armenia. The Minister congratulated Sapenov on his taking office as defence attaché and wished him success on his responsible military diplomatic mission. The interlocutors also discussed the course of the Armenian-Kazakh defence cooperation and ways of it's further extension. Several topics related to regional security were discussed.

ԱվելինA ceremonial event dedicated to the International Peacekeeper Day was held
On May 29, the Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Edward Asryan, accompanied by high-ranking representatives of the RA MoD and the General Staff of the Armed Forces, visited the MoD Peacekeeping Brigade and attended the ceremonial event dedicated to the International Peacekeeper Day. On behalf of RA Defence Minister Suren Papikyan and in his personal capacity, Edward Asryan congratulated the brigade servicemembers on their professional day and expressed gratitude for diligently carrying out their service and mission. Highly appraising the Peacekeepers’ readiness, Edward Asryan emphasized that being well aware of the value of peace, the Armenian servicemembers perform their tasks with honour, thus making an important contribution to ensuring international peace and security. At the end of the ceremonial event, a number of servicemembers of the Peacekeeping brigade were awarded departmental medals, valuable gifts, and certificates.

ԱվելինThe politico-military leadership of the RA visited Sardarapat Heroic Battle Memorial
Today, the politico-military leadership of the Republic of Armenia, led by the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Armenia visited Sardarapat Heroic Battle Memorial on the ocasion of the Republic Day of Armenia. The Prime Minister delivered salutary address at the Memorial complex, which was followed by the play of the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia and a ceremonial march. Afterwards, wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial immortalizing the memory of the heroes of Sardarapat battle. At the end of the event, a ceremony of presenting state awards was held at the National Museum of Armenian Ethnography.

Intensive activities are underway to find out the circumstances of the illegal abduction of Armenian servicemen by Azerbaijan.

The logistic supply vehicle operated by the two servicemen of the RA Armed Forces, who were delivering provisions and water to combat outpost on May 26, at 7 p.m., was found on the inter-positional road. On May 26, the Azerbaijani media outlets, after it the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, disseminated misinformation claiming that the Armenian side made a sabotage-infiltration attempt and that two servicemen of the Armenian Armed forces had been apprehended. Once again we inform that the information disseminated by the State Border Service of Azerbaijan regarding the Armenian side’s allegedly sabotage-infiltration attempt is an absolute falsehood and disinformation. The Armenian side has enough proofs to deny it, which will be presented to the international partners. There was also a weapon of one of the servicemen left in the found vehicle, which proves that even if the servicemen got out of the car and had lost their bearings in the area, the servicemen could not have sabotage objectives in mind. Intensive activities are underway to find out the circumstances of the illegal abduction of Armenian servicemen by Azerbaijan.

On May 26, from 7 p.m., communication with 2 servicemen of the RA Armed Forces supplying food to combat positions was interrupted. Search operations are being carried out to find the servicemen. A possible version of their turning up the Azerbaijani side under not clarified circumstances is also being investigated.
