On July 18th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, received the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Armenia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vassilis Maragos. During the meeting, topics related to defence cooperation within the context of the Armenia-EU partnership, as well as regional security issues, were discussed. Upon the Ambassador’s request, the Minister of Defence, Suren Papikyan, provided an overview of the ongoing reforms within the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

ԱվելինThe joint Armenia-U.S. military exercise "EAGLE PARTNER 2024"
On July 15th, the joint Armenia-U.S. military exercise, "EAGLE PARTNER 2024" commenced at the Military Academy named after Vazgen Sargsyan of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, and the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia, Kristina A. Kvien, along with other dignitaries. The national anthems of Armenia and the United States, as well as the anthem of the "EAGLE PARTNER 2024" exercise, were performed. The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan and U.S. Ambassador Kvien delivered welcoming speeches to the military personnel participating in the exercises. The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, in his speech, particularly noted: "I highly appreciate the work of the U.S. Army Europe and Africa, and the Kansas National Guard, which has been a partner of Armenia for more than two decades. I also commend the military personnel of the Peacekeeping Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, representatives of the U.S. Embassy, and employees of the RA Ministry of Defense who participated in the effective planning of these exercises. I highly value this cooperation, which is aimed at enhancing the level of interoperability between units participating in international peacekeeping missions within the framework of peacekeeping operations."

After the welcoming ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, a tête-à-tête conversation took place between the Minister of Defence of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, and the Minister of Defence of Georgia, Irakli Chikovani. This was followed by a meeting with the extended delegations. During the meeting, the current level of cooperation was highly valued. Issues related to Armenia-Georgia cooperation in the field of defence and regional security were discussed. The parties also presented details regarding the ongoing reforms in the Armed Forces of both countries. At the end of the meeting, the Defence Ministers signed the 2024 cooperation plan between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defence of Georgia.

ԱվելինMeeting in the administrative complex of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia
On the sidelines of his working visit to Armenia, the Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Minister of Defence and Defence Policy Director of the Austrian Ministry of Defence, Dr. Arnold Kammel, met with the Head of the Department of Defence Policy and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Levon Ayvazyan. The parties presented the progress and priorities of reforms in both countries and discussed possibilities for exchanging experiences in these areas. They also addressed prospective directions of cooperation in the defence field and issues related to multilateral cooperation formats. As part of his visit, Dr. Arnold Kammel visited the NDRU of the RA MoD and met with the university’s Professors and Lecturers staff. Dr. Arnold Kammel paid tribute to the Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

On July 10th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, received the Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Minister of Defence, Defence Policy Director of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Austria Dr. Arnold Kammel. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to the Republic of Armenia, Thomas Mühlmann, also attended the meeting. The discussions focused on perspectives of cooperation between Armenia and Austria in the field of defence. Suren Papikyan presented the progress of defence reforms in Armenia and, in that context, the scope of international cooperation. Issues related to regional security were also discussed.

On July 9th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia, H.E. Mr. Mehdi Sobhani. The newly appointed Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the IRI in the RA, Colonel Mohammad Najafi, also participated in the meeting. Minister Papikyan extended congratulations to the newly appointed Defence Attaché and conveyed his best wishes for success in his pivotal mission. Furthermore, Suren Papikyan expressed gratitude to the former Defence Attaché, Colonel Bahman Sadeghin for productive cooperation. The discussion encompassed topics related to Armenia-Iran defence cooperation and regional security.
