On February 21, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Arman Sargsyan received the delegation led by Stefano Tomat, the Civilian Operations Commander of the EU External Action Service, with the participation of Dr. Markus Ritter, the Head of EU monitoring mission in Armenia. Issues related to the activity of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia were discussed at the meeting. Both sides emphasized the role of the EU civilian mission in strengthening the stability and security of border zone.

On February 19, around 7:40 p.m., near the village of Khnatsakh, due to an avalanche, an UAZ vehicle of the Ministry of Defence rolled into a gorge, resulting in the deaths of contract servicemen Zorand Hrant Arzumanyan and Zorak Samvel Yeranosyan. 2 servicemen were taken to the garrison hospital with various injuries. Their condition is assessed as satisfactory, life is not in danger. The crew of the vehicle, trying to help the other servicemen of the unit in extremely bad weather conditions, demonstrated selflessness to perform the task. Unfortunately, as a result of an accident, the aforementioned servicemen were killed. The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia shares the heavy sorrow of the loss and expresses support to the family members, relatives and fellow servicemen of the the ones killed as a result of the accident.

Suren Papikyan visited the Military University named after V. Sargsyan

On February 17, RA Defence Minister Suren Papikyan made a surprise visit to the Military University named after V. Sargsyan. The minister toured the territory of the military educational institution, got acquainted with the equipment of the professional classrooms with educational materials, the conditions of the barracks and canteen, as well as the ongoing renovation works. Talking to the leadership of the military university and discussing a number of issues related to the educational process, Suren Papikyan stated that new programs have already been introduced to increase the attractiveness of military service and make military education more attractive, and the reforms will continue.

The Minister of Defence of Armenia received the Ambassador of Japan

On February 16, RA Defence Minister Suren Papikyan received Japan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Fukushima Masanori and Japan's military attaché to Armenia Yoshida Kensuke. The Minister of Defence congratulated the Ambassador and the military attaché on the occasion of the National Day of Japan. During the meeting, reference was made to the latest developments in the region. The possibilities of bilateral cooperation in the field of defence, as well as issues related to regional security, were discussed.

On February 14, around 6:05 p.m, according to preliminary information, a serviceman of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defence D.P., was wounded by the opponent gun fire in the direction of Norabak. The serviceman's condition is assessed as moderate, his life is not in danger. An investigation is underway to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Possibilities of expanding cooperation were discussed

Deputy Defence Minister Karen Brutyan left for India on a working visit to participate in the "Aero India-2023" defence aviation exhibition and the conference organized within its framework. During the visit, the Deputy Defence Minister met with the Defence Minister of India Shri Rajnath Singh. During the meeting, the possibilities of expanding cooperation, a number of issues of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation were discussed.

The Minister of Defence visited the "Zar" training center

On February 11, RA Defence Minister Suren Papikyan visited the "Zar" training center of the peacekeeping brigade of the Ministry of Defence, where conscripts who expressed a desire to participate in the "Defender of the Homeland" program undergo daily combat and physical training. Minister Papikyan inquired about the training process of the personnel, urged the servicemen to put every effort to fully pass this important training period in order to properly present themselves to the certifying commissions in the near future. The Minister of Defence also answered the questions of the servicemen.
