A conference was held at the “Mother Armenia” Military History Museum

On June 29, a conference on the topic “The Forgotten Armenian Heroes of the Second World War” was held at the “Mother Armenia” Military History Museum of the Ministry of Defence. The conference was attended by servicemen, researchers, and representatives of accredited Embassies to Armenia. The attendees first toured the museum, all the while getting acquainted with the valuable samples of the temporary exhibition opened within the framework of the conference. During the conference, the representatives of the RA National Academy of Sciences, YSU, the National Archives of Armenia, and the “Mother Armenia” Military History Museum touched upon the active involvement and contribution of Armenians to World War II and presented in detail the unpublicized, unknown pages of the war and the exploits of the participants unknown to the public. Commending the feat and bravery of the fighters who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the motherland and valuing their merits are of key importance over the course of time. A collection of reports from the conference will be published in the near future.

The Minister of Defence attended the ceremonial event dedicated to the anniversary of the establishment of the RA Military University

The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan attended the ceremonial event dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the RA Military University named after V. Sargsyan. The event was attended by representatives of legislative and territorial administration bodies, deputy ministers of defence, the leadership of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and other high-ranking officials as well. Congratulating those present on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Military University’s establishment, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia noted that the University has a great contribution to the army formation. Suren Papikyan also emphasized that today, after 29 years, the Military University faces a new milestone. It becomes a Military Academy, including the Military Aviation University in its structure. “We already have the relevant Government decision. In the near future, along with other legal acts, the new structure of the military university will also be completed. We have set a task in front of us, according to which the Military University should be not only the institution of our Armed Forces and the most significant educational center, but also a military training facility where young people from other countries will desire and dream to study, and this is a possible milestone."- emphasized RA Defence Minister Suren Papikyan, expressing confidence that thousands of young people devoted to motherland will study in this educational center to keep the borders of the motherland inviolable and preserve the honor high. The Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces-First Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Edward Asryan in his congratulatory speech touched upon the history of the establishment of the Military University named after V. Sargsyan and the current extended military educational activities. Edward Asryan stated that the graduates of the Military University have always contributed and are still actively contributing to the improvement and development of the combat potential of the army, therefore the structure should be strengthened as a guarantor of the Armenian State, the security of the Armenian people, improve and stand for the defence of country’s combat outposts.

A Ceremony of Tribute was held in "Yerablur" military pantheon

On June 29, on the occasion of the remembrance day of freedom fighters missing in action, a Ceremony of Tribute was held in "Yerablur" military pantheon. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking military personnel, the chairman of Erkrapah (guardians of the land) veteran's Union Sasun Mikayelyan, the head of the “Council of Relatives of Freedom Fighters Missing in Action ” NGO Rima Arakelyan, and representatives of the Armenian Red Cross Society and NGOs. The commemorative ceremony commenced with a prayer. There were speeches and words of consolation addressed to the next of kin of the freedom fighters missing in action. The attendees laid flowers at the monument dedicated to the memory of freedom fighters missing in action.

Delegation of the U.S. State of Kansas National Guard visited Zar Training center

In the framework of the activities dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenia-Kansas partnership, delegation of the U.S. state of Kansas, led by Brigadier General Michael T. Venerdi, The Adjutant General, Commander of Kansas National Guard visited Zar Training center of the peacekeeping brigade of the RA Ministry of Defence. The guests were briefed on the history, activities and ongoing programs of the center. The delegation led by The Adjutant General Michael Venerdi toured the training center and got acquainted with the conditions and the training facilities.

Suren Papikyan visited the assembly point of the Defence Ministry

On June 26, on the occasion of the 2023 summer conscription beginning, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, accompanied by the the Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces- First Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Edward Asryan, visited the assembly point of the Defence Ministry. Defence Minister congratulated officers and conscripts on the occasion of the AF recruitment's next phase beginning. Minister Papikyan watched the activities of the commissions, talked with the conscripts wishing them safe service. The head of the Defence Ministry presented the conscripts the “Homeland Defender” program launched in the Armed Forces, in which every conscript can become a participant and take advantage of the program’s wide opportunities. Suren Papikyan gave instructions to the heads of the services involved in the conscription work to conduct the process at the the proper level and in a transparent manner.

Delegation of the Kansas National Guard visited the Central Clinical Military Hospital

In the framework of the activities dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenia-Kansas partnership, representatives of the U.S. state of Kansas, led by Brigadier General Michael T. Venerdi, The Adjutant General, Commander of Kansas National Guard visited the Central Clinical Military Hospital of the RA Ministry of Defence. The head of the military medical department of the RA Armed Forces, Colonel Gegham Pashikyan welcomed them at the hospital. The delegation toured the hospital, got acquainted with its capabilities, as well as with the opportunities of the mobile field hospital as part of the department, and with the preparatory measures for its international assessment. During the visit, the results of the achievements of cooperation in the field of military medicine were summed up, the importance of further expanding the partnership and the areas of military medicine of greatest interest was emphasized. Afterwards, the U.S. Army National Guard Bands performed for the servicemembers undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Ceremonial conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenia-Kansas partnership

On June 23 a ceremonial conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenia-Kansas partnership was held at the premises of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of the U.S. State Partnership Program. Defense Minister of Armenia Suren Papikyan and Governor of Kansas Laura Kelly delivered a welcoming speech. During the ceremonial meeting, the outcomes of the achievements recorded over 20 years of cooperation were summed up. It was emphasized that the current level of cooperation between the Defense Ministry of Armenia and the Kansas National Guard creates a good basis for developing partnerships between the State of Kansas and other ministries of Armenia - with the police and the rescue service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the fields of agriculture, healthcare, tourism, etc. The Armenian Defense Minister awarded a number of employees of the facilities of Defense Cooperation and the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Armenia with the medal "For Defence Cooperation" and honorary diplomas of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia for the contribution to the development of Armenian-American partnership in the field of defense and in connection with the Armenia-Kansas 20th anniversary partnership establishment. A number of representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia were awarded by the Kansas National Guard.

The Minister of Defense of the RA received Governor of the State of Kansas Laura Kelly and Commander of Kansas National Guard Michael T. Venerdi

On June 23, RA Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan received Laura Kelly, Governor of the State of Kansas and Brigadier General Michael T. Venerdi, The Adjutant General, Commander of Kansas National Guard who have visited Armenia within the framework of activities dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenia-Kansas partnership. The meeting was attended by the United States Ambassador to Armenia Kristina A. Kvien as well. The current status of the partnership between the RA Ministry of Defense and the Kansas National Guard was discussed. The sides touched upon the implementation of the arrangements on new areas of cooperation reached during the visit of the RA Defense Minister to Kansas in September last year. The parties stated the progress of the planned cooperation in the fields of mutual interest (professional NCOs system, peacekeeping, military medicine, cybersecurity, exchange of experience in the areas of social security for military personnel and their families, etc.). An arrangement was reached to continue the partnership, as well as to initiate new areas of partnership.
