Issues related to the current state and prospects of Armenia-NATO cooperation were discussed
On November 5-6, the delegation led by Deputy Chief of Staff of the Partnerships Directorate at NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Vice Admiral Gunnstein Bruåsdal (Norway), arrived in Armenia for a working visit. During the visit, the delegation met with the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Major General Artur Yeroyan, and Head of the Department of Defense Policy and International Cooperation of the RA MoD Levon Ayvazyan. The meetings focused on the progress and prospects of Armenia-NATO cooperation. The Armenian side presented to the NATO delegation the ongoing defence reforms implemented in Armenia. As part of the visit, Vice Admiral Bruåsdal and his delegation also visited the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Academy of the Ministry of Defence and the Peacekeeping Brigade.

On October 29, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Armenia Claudia Busch. Minister Papikyan extended his congratulations to Ambassador Busch on her appointment and expressed his best wishes for further progress in the development of Armenia-Germany relations. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of defence cooperation between Armenia and Germany, as well as prospects for future cooperation. The Minister provided an overview of ongoing defence reforms. Key issues related to regional security were also addressed.

On October 23, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia, H.E. George Sharvashidze, on the occasion of the appointment of new Defence Attaché of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia. Minister Papikyan welcomed the participants and extended his congratulations to the newly appointed Defence Attaché, Lt. Col. Teimuraz Maisuradze, wishing him success in his efforts to further develop and strengthen cooperation between the defence departments of both countries. The meeting also included discussions on the progress and future prospects of Armenia-Georgia defence cooperation, as well as an exchange of views on regional security and international developments.

At the invitation of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, the delegation from the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia headed by Deputy Defence Minister Karen Brutyan participated in the international exhibition “Future Forces Forum 2024”, held in Prague from October 15 to 18. During the event official meetings were conducted with Radka Konderlová, Director General for the Industrial Cooperation Division of the Czech Ministry of Defence, and representatives of Czech military-industrial companies. Discussions focused on military-technical cooperation between Armenia and the Czech Republic, resulting in several agreements. Additionally, meetings were held with representatives of military-industrial companies from other partner countries participating in the exhibition.

ԱվելինA delegation led by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces participated in the annual NATO Operational Capability Concept Conference
From October 13 to 17, a delegation led by Major General Artur Yeroyan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, participated in the annual NATO Operational Capability Concept (OCC) Conference in Casablanca, Morocco. During the OCC process, units from NATO partner countries are evaluated for their level of interoperability with NATO forces within the framework of international missions. During his visit, Major General Yeroyan held meetings with several high-ranking officials, including Vice Admiral Gunnstein Bruåsdal (Norway), Deputy Chief of Staff of the Partnerships Directorate at NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and Brigadier General Martin REMES (Slovakia), Assistant Chief of Staff-Military Cooperation Partnership Directorate at NATO SHAPE. The discussions focused on issues of cooperation, including the next round of the interoperability evaluation. The Armenian delegation has received the certificates confirming the level of interoperability, as a result of the previous round of evaluation.

On October 16, on the sidelines of his working visit to the United States, the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia-Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan held a meeting with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces, General Charles Brown. During the meeting, the two sides discussed topics of mutual interest, acknowledging the continued development of Armenia-US defense cooperation. The U.S. side reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the ongoing transformation and reforms of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. The importance of sustaining joint activities was underscored, and a range of issues related to regional security were also addressed.

Within the framework of his working visit to the USA, on October 15, the First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia-Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan had meetings with the Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency Mike Miller, the Commander of the Security Support Command of the US Army, Brig. Gen. Allen Pepper, and the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Teresa Guenov. During the meetings, a number of issues related to the current course of Armenia-US defence partnership, upcoming programs and regional security were discussed.

On October 9-10, Bilateral Defence Consultations between the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Republic of Germany were held in Berlin, with the participation of the delegation led by the Head of the Department of Defence Policy and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Levon Ayvazyan. During the meetings held at the Federal Ministry of Defence of Germany, within the Departments of International Security Policy and International Cooperation, various issues concerning international and regional security were discussed, alongside the prospects for the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Levon Ayvazyan provided an overview of the political-military situation surrounding Armenia and its ongoing developments, highlighting in particular the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative developed by the Government of Armenia, as well as the transformation process of the Armenian Armed Forces. Both parties reviewed and expressed mutual satisfaction with the progress of bilateral defence cooperation in 2024, underscoring its significant potential for further development. As a result of the discussions, the 2025 cooperation program in the field of defence was agreed upon, including a range of activities related to exchange of experience, education, and training, as well as other areas of mutual interest.

On October 3, the delegation headed by Director General of the International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Janusz Adamczak, who arrived in Armenia on a working visit, held bilateral meetings with the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia-Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan, as well as the Head of the General Department of Defence Policy and International Cooperation of the RA MoD, Levon Avazyan. On October 1-2, the delegation led by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Major General Artur Yeroyan, conducted a working visit to Georgia. Major General Yeroyan was received by the Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces, Major General, Giorgi Matiashvili. During the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of continued development and expansion of cooperation in the field of defence. Deputy Chief of Armenian GS AF also met with Deputy Commander of the Georgian Defence Forces, Chief of the General Staff, Major General Joni Tatunashvili. They discussed future prospects for cooperation between the Armenian Armed Forces and the Georgian Defence Forces. As part of the visit, the Armenian delegation toured the National Defence Academy, the Command and Staff Training Center, the Joint Training and Evaluation Center, and the NCO Academy. The delegation was briefed on the activities and educational programs of these institutions and centers.
