Suren Papikyan met with the Minister of National Defence of the PRC
On September 12, on the sidelines of his visit to the People’s Republic of China, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, met with the Minister of National Defence of the PRC, Admiral Dong Jun. During the meeting, the interlocutors underscored the elevated level of relations between the two countries across various domains, including defence. The parties also noted the substantial progress in military cooperation in recent years, including the exploration of new areas. The Ministers expressed their commitment to further advancing Armenia-China cooperation, including enhancing high-level interactions between the Armed Forces of both countries. Additionally, a range of issues related to international and regional security was also discussed.

On September 10, on the sidelines of his working visit to the Republic of Korea, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan participated in a ministerial working lunch and round table discussions. The discussions covered the key topic of the summit, which is the promotion of the responsible use of artificial intelligence for military purposes. Additionally, issues concerning international and regional security challenges, as well as the enhancement of bilateral and multilateral relations, were addressed with several counterparts: Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Korea Shin Won-sik, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Defence of Singapore Eng Hen Ng, Minister of Defence of Finland Antti Häkkänen, and other experts attending the event.

On September 9, as part of his working visit to the Republic of Korea, the Minister of Defence of Armenia Suren Papikyan attended the opening ceremony of the “Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain” summit. The event was organized by the Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Kenya, with the aim of establishing international mechanisms to regulate the use of artificial intelligence in military technology and military operations.

As part of his official visit to Georgia on 2 September, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan met with the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia, Ashot Smbatyan, also attended the meeting. During the discussions, both sides emphasized the strategic relations between Armenia and Georgia, highlighting the effectiveness of regular high-level contacts between delegations. The Prime Minister of Georgia welcomed the strengthening of Armenia-Georgia cooperation in the defence sector and expressed his full support for this ongoing process. In his turn, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan underscored the importance of enhancing defence cooperation and conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. Both the Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the Minister of Defence Suren Papikyan emphasized the importance of establishing long-term and stable peace in the region. The Georgian side has expressed its readiness to continue supporting efforts to establish peace in the region.

After the welcoming ceremony of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan at the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, the private conversation between the Ministers of Defence of Armenia and Georgia started, which continued with the expanded delegations. During the meeting, the Ministers highlighted the activation and enhancement of cooperation in the field of military education, as well as the importance of establishing long-term and stable peace in the region. An agreement was reached to study also the possibilities of further expansion of bilateral defence cooperation and inclusion of new fields through mutual visits of different groups. The heads of the Defence establishments of Armenia and Georgia also discussed a number of other issues related to Armenia-Georgia cooperation in the field of defence and regional security.
