On September 17, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of the commission on captives, hostages and missing persons David Tonoyan received head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia Claire Meytraud.

During the meeting, David Tonoyan touched upon the videos spread in the Azerbaijani media relating to Gurgen Alaverdyan and expressed the concern of the RA Ministry of Defence over the content of that videos to the head of the ICRC office in Yerevan. The Minister of Defence noted that the obstruction of the permission of the Azerbaijani authorities to visit Gurgen Alaverdyan by the representatives of the ICRC office in Baku is a gross violation of the internationally enshrined rights, in particular, of the commitments assumed by Azerbaijan within the framework of the international humanitarian law.

At the same time, the Minister of Defence thanked the head of the ICRC office in Yerevan for the efforts made by the delegation in the protection of the rights of the prisoners of war and civilians being under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan.

In his turn, the head of the ICRC office in Yerevan assured that the ICRC delegation is taking all the necessary steps to ensure all the procedures deriving from the status of Gurgen Alaverdyan and other Armenians who are in the Azerbaijani captivity.

The interlocutors also discussed the activities aimed at assessing the level of the integration of the international humanitarian law in the RA Armed Forces.
