ՀՀ ՊՆ Վ.ՍԱՐԳՍՅԱՆԻ ԱՆՎԱՆ ՌԱԶՄԱԿԱՆ ՀԱՄԱԼՍԱՐԱՆԻ ՊԱՏՄՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ
Vazgen Sargsyan Military University of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia was established by Decree N279 of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, on June 24, 1994, as a diverse military command college of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia.
By Decree N24 of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, on January 16, 1998, the Higher Military Command College of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia was reorganized into a Military Institute, which in 1998 gave its first graduates with 4 years of education.
By Decree N98 of the President of the Republic of Armenia, on December 27, 1999, the military institute was named after the national hero of Armenia and Artsakh, Commander Vazgen Sargsyan.
Since 2001, the Military Institute has been training officers in two specialties: motorized rifle and artillery. Since 2004, the Military Institute has had a Center for Officer Training and Military Vocational Training, where officers serving in the Armed Forces improve their professional knowledge.
Integrating into the system of state universities in 2003, the Military Institute became a full member of the state universities of the republic. Since 2013, the Command and Staff Faculty (Master's program) has been operating, where one-year courses with the specialty "Management of Military Units" with a master's degree in "Management of Military Units" started. By Order N1356 of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia of December 18, 2017, the Faculty of Command and Staff was renamed to "Command and Staff Faculty after Marshal Hovhannes Baghramyan".
In the 2014-2015 academic year, for the first time in its history, the Military Institute had female applicants, whose admission procedure was defined by the order of the RA Minister of Defence.
By Decree N446 of the Government of the Republic of Armenia of April 28, 2016, the Military Institute was redeclared, becoming "Vazgen Sargsyan Military University" state institution of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia.
