Discussions were held on the process and prospects of cooperation in the field of defence

On October 5, RA First Deputy Minister of Defence Davit Tonoyan received Sweden’s Foreign Ministry delegation, headed by Deputy Head of Eastern and Central Asia’s Department, Mrs. Therese Hayden. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Armenia and Georgia, H.E. Martina Quick, as well as Sweden’s charge d’affaires to Armenia Morten Engberg.

During the meeting, the parties conversed on the current process and prospects of multilateral cooperation. Both sides emphasized on the importance of cooperation in the framework of the European Union and NATO. The parties expressed their preparedness to explore possibilities of collaboration in the fields of international peacekeeping, humanitarian demining, education and training, etc.Upon the Swedish party’s request, Davit Tonoyan presented the present situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani national border and Karabakh-Azerbaijani contact line, including Azerbaijani’s latest maneuvers aimed at destabilizing the situation on the border. The interlocutors expressed concern over the intensification of the situation on the border, the use of heavy artillery, and the shelling of residential areas, and reaffirmed their cooperation in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, aimed at resolving the given conflict through peaceful measures.
