The ARM Minister of Defence receives Drastamat Kanayan’s comrade in arms
20 February, 2015 00:00On February 19, Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan received Second World War veteran, Drastamat Kanayan’s comrade in arms, French-Armenian 92-year-old philanthropist, M. Mushegh Chaloyan-Martirosyan.
The Minister of Defence greeted the war veteran, who was held in captivity 70 years ago and has encountered many difficulties throughout his life, yet remains optimistic and patriotic. The Minister also expressed his gratitude for M. Chaloyan-Martirosyan’s contribution in the preservation of our country and extended his best wishes. Seyran Ohanyan hopes that the war veteran will continue introducing the Armenian culture throughout the world.
The Armenian war veteran also noted that, despite the struggles encountered by the Armenian people, we must always stay true to our country, in order to preserve our national identity. Quoting his brother in arms Drastamat Kanayan, he said “No matter where you are, you must stay alive. Your country will always need you.”
Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan awarded Mushegh Chaloyan-Martirosyan with the administrative medal of “Drastamat Kanayan” for his great contribution in the promotion of our country within the French-Armenian community and also on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the formation of the Armenian Armed Forces.
