19 September, 2014 00:00On September 17-18, 2014, at the invitation of the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS), MOD, RA, the delegation of the International Forum for the Challenges of Peace Operations headed by the Forum’s Director Annika Hilding Norberg visited Armenia. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the issue of deepening the cooperation between Armenia and the Forum.
On September 17, the delegation members met with the INSS Head, Major General, Advisor to the RA Defense Minister Hayk Kotanjian at the Institute for National Strategic Studies. The Executive Director of the Political Science Association of Armenia (PSAA) Benyamin Poghosyan participated in the meeting. The collaboration of the INSS with the International Forum for the Challenges of Peace Operations began in spring 2014. The Forum significantly assisted in organizing the International Strategic Policy Forum on peacekeeping issues held on July 1-2, by the INSS, MOD, RA in Yerevan.
On September 18, 2014, the delegation members accompanied by the Head of the INSS Hayk Kotanjian and the Executive Director of the PSAA Benyamin Poghosyan visited the “Zar” military training center, where they met with the commander of the RA Peacekeeping Brigade, Major General Artur Simonyan, and attended the drill of the peacekeeping brigade.
On the same day, the delegation met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ashot Hovakimyan and the Head of the MFA NATO’s Division Gagik Hovhannisyan, as well as with the First Deputy Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan. The INSS Head, Major General Hayk Kotanjian and the Executive Director of the PSAA Benyamin Poghosyan also participated in the meetings. During the meeting with Davit Tonoyan a comprehensive discussion took place on possible ways of strengthening the cooperation between the Forum and Armenia, in particular, the Ministry of Defense. Davit Tonoyan and Annika Hilding Norberg emphasized the readiness to deepen the bilateral cooperation.
