Issues of the Armenian-Italian military cooperation on discussion agenda

On June 3, the ARM Minister of Defence Seyran Ohanyan had a meeting with the Italian Minister of Defence Roberta Pinotti while on a working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium.

During the meeting, discussion focused on the issues of bilateral military cooperation between Armenia and Italy. The Italian side highly assessed Armenia`s efforts in the participation for maintenance of international peace and stability operations in particular reaffirming Armenia`s commitment to contribute forces for the UN`s UNIFIL mission in Lebanon. The two sides emphasized that the joint participation in the international peacekeeping operations will give a new impetus to the development of the bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of military police, military education and others. During the meeting, also discussions were held on the international and regional security issues. In this context, the ARM Defence Minister highly assesed Italy`s constructive and balanced approach to the regional issues. At the end of the meeting, the ministers signed the “Technical agreement between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defence of the Italian Republic regarding cooperation and support within the frame of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon” which regulates the procedures of assigning the Armenian platoon to UNIFIL`s Italian contingent.
