The delegation of the Ministry of Defence of the RA had meetings in Brussels

On October 21-23, inthe framework of а workingvisit to Brussels, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan held bilateral meetings with several counter-parts from different countries.

In particular, during ameeting with the Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania, bilateral issues related to cooperation in the field of defense were on the agenda. The parties summarized the accomplished work for the last period and outlined prospects of cooperation in future. ARM Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan also met with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Italy, Mario Mauro. Issues related to bilateral cooperation as well as preparatory operations for the deployment of the Armenian unit in UNIFIL peacekeeping mission under the command of the Italian contingent were discussed.
The parties agreed to complete the legal procedures regulating the participation of Armenian peacekeepers in UNIFIL peacekeeping mission as soon as possible and to take up the implementation of the mission. Within the frame of the visit, a meeting was held between the First Deputy Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, Dr. Evelyn N. Farkas. During the meeting, issues related to the Armenian-US bilateral cooperation in the field of defense were on discussion agenda, in particular, development of the ARM peacekeeping capabilities under the GPOI program of the US supporting the Peacekeeping initiative and the establishment of the peacekeeping training center in Armenia, education and trainings carried out in the US military academies and institutions for the ARM staff members on individual and unit level, computer assisted capacity building of the command staff and combat training in the Armenian Armed Forces, and other issues of bilateral cooperation. The parties agreed to further elaborate over issues related to bilateral cooperation during the bilateral defence consultations to be held in Yerevan, in December.
