Dynamic development of Armenian-Georgian military cooperation

On March 7, The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Georgia Irakli Alasania paid an official visit to Armenia and within the scope of the visit met his Armenian counterpart.

The welcoming ceremony held at MoD administrative complex and honoring the guest was followed by a tete-a-tete meeting between the Defense Ministers Seyran Ohanyan and Irakli Alasania and then by an enlarged meeting of delegations. Seyran Ohanyan and Irakli Alasania also held a joint press conference, where they addressed several inter-agency cooperation programs in the defence sphere, regional issues, as well as other issues of mutual interest. Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan confirmed the efficiency of bilateral relations and informed about the negotiation outcomes. "Armenian-Georgian military cooperation is on a high level and is developing dynamically. We have already outlined the framework of our cooperation for 2013. We have agreed to expand the legal foundation of the cooperation between the two Defense Agencies and to take necessary steps to ensure the closure of mutually beneficial agreements. We already have solid prerequisites to strengthen and expand the cooperation in mountain training, military education and peacekeeping as well as in the area of defense reforms. I can say with confidence that we are fully determined to implement the mentioned projects and to enhance the atmosphere of trust we share that been formed over the centuries for the benefit of peaceful co-existence and prosperity of the two friendly nations. We share the same opinion that the regional conflicts should only be settled in peaceful means through dialogue and negotiations``- said Seyran Ohanyan. On his part Irakli Alasania thanked the Defence Minister of Armenia for the warm welcome and once again touched upon issues discussed. Georgia`s Defence Minister reminded of the Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili`s official visit to Armenia, and emphasized that the relations between the two countries will develop and deepen in the future. In regard to the regional conflicts,IrakliAlasania particularly said: "The regional security should be built by us- the states in the South Caucasus. And existing conflicts in the region should be settled only by peaceful means." During the conference, Defense Ministers of Armenia and Georgia answered the questions on bilateral relations and regional issues.
