Visit of the delegation led by Seyran Ohanyan to the Republic of Lithuania

On April 18 Seyran Ohanyan, Acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia had a meeting with Juozas Olekas, Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania within the framework of an official visit to Lithuania.

During the meeting Defence Ministers of Armenia and Lithuania highly appreciated the current level of military cooperation between Armenia and Lithuania that has a history of more than a decade. They also emphasized the enhancement of cooperation in traditional areas including military education and medicine, peacekeeping, expert advice, etc. Certain agreements were reached to establish and develop cooperation in cyber security, human resource management and energy security fields. The Ministers emphasized the prospects of multilateral cooperation enhancement, in particular the participation of the armed forces of Lithuania and Armenia in multinational and international operations, and the cooperation in NATO and EU frameworks. Seyran Ohanyan and Juozas Olekas also exchanged opinions on regional security issues. On the same day, the Armenian delegation visited the Seimas- the parliament of the Republic of Lithuania where they met with the Deputy Chairman of the Seimas, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Security and Defence and the parliamentary friendship groups with Armenia and Nagorno-Karabagh in Lithuania. On April 19 the delegation had meetings in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, where broad range of issues on Armenian-Lithuanian relations, including prospects and progress of cooperation under EU`s Eastern Partnership and NATO partnership programs as well as regional security issues were discussed. Seyran Ohanyan also visited the Military Academy of Lithuania named after General Jonas Zemaitis, met with representatives of the Armenian community at the Armenian Embassy and paid tribute to defenders of the independence of Lithuania laying a wreath at their memorial.
