Delegation led by Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan has had meetings in Tbilisi

On July 17 the delegation led by Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan paid an official visit to Tbilisi, Georgia. The delegation included First Deputy Minister of Defence David Tonoyan and other officials of the RA MoD and GS.

Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan had a meeting with Irakli Alasania Minister of Defence of the Republic of Georgia. After the solemn welcome ceremony of high-ranking guests held at MoD of the Republic of Georgia, Georgian and Armenian Defence Ministers had a tête-à-tête meeting. Following the meeting, Georgian Defense Minister noted at the joint press conference that the Armenian-Georgian relations are a priority for the government, and important for the ensuring regional security. ``I would like to thank the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, for accepting our invitation. I would like to specifically highlight the historical, friendly and warm relations binding Georgian and Armenian people. During today`s meeting we spoke of the bilateral cooperation and agreed that it would go according to the cooperation plan, adopted in 2013. We also referred to those priorities defining bilateral cooperation in 2014. I`d like to underline that bilateral relations between Georgia and Armenia is a top priority for our state and also very essential for ensuring regional security, as well” – declared Georgian Defence Minister. Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan informed that the sides discussed security issues in the South Caucasus. ``We attach great importance to relations with Georgia as our countries are bound by history and centuries-old friendship. I believe this is a solid ground to give a new impetus to further enhancement of our relations in the field of defence,`` said Seyran Ohanyan. Minister noted that since 2001, the cooperation in the field of defence between the two countries has been increasing dynamically and envisages exchange of experience in military training and education. Within the framework of the visit Minister of Defence of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan also metwith Bidzina Ivanashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia discussing the strategy of cooperation between Armenia and Georgia in the field of defence. In his interview with journalists Seyran Ohanyan noted that the defence ministries of the two countries plan to cooperate on strategic planning, peacekeeping missions, military trainings and exchange of experiences. The members of the delegation led by Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan also paid tribute to the memory of fallen Gerogians at the Hero Square.
