On July 12 Minister of Defence Seyran Ohanyan met with a group of young people from Diaspora within the framework of "Depi Hayq" foundation. The meeting with more than 50 youngsters was also attended by First Deputy Defence Minister Davit Tonoyan and a number of high-ranking officers.

The discussion the main topic of which was the Armed Forces was opened by the Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of RA MoD, Vardan Avetisyan who emphasized the patriotic upbringing of the new generation and the importance the Ministry of Defence gives to general engagement of young people living abroad in future empowerment of our country. Executive Director of "Depi Hayq" in Yerevan, Sevan Kabakyan thanked the Ministry of Defense for the meeting and noted that all young Diasporan Armenians visiting Armenia within the framework of the program pursue a common goal- to learn more about the Republic of Armenia, to become a part of the motherland and to make their personal contribution to the protection and the development of our country. Greeting the guests Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan noted that it is a great honor to meet with young people who live in different countries yet never forget their roots and their identity. "You all were born in different countries, and your understanding of Armenia has been theoretical. These visits give you opportunities to discover your motherland-the cradle that unites us all, and it is this idea of cohesion that lies in the heart of our success and victories ensuring the development and prosperity of our nation," said Seyran Ohanyan. RA Minister of Defence also took questions related to armaments, military call-up, women’s role in the Armed Forces and informed about main priorities and trends of the RA Armed Forces development. At the end of the meeting, Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan presented the young Diasporans with his new book titled "20-year-old Chronicle of the Armenian Army", and expressed his hope that it would help them to have a more comprehensive understanding of the Armenian Army. ‘’Depi Hayq’’ ("Birthright Armenia") Foundation was established in 2003 in the United States by Edil Hovsanyan. The mission of the foundation is to enhance and strengthen ties of the youngsters from Armenian Diaspora with their motherland, enabling them to be part of the daily life in Armenia and to contribute to national development through volunteer work, while creating lasting personal relationships in Armenia, and raise national awareness amongst the youth of Diaspora.
