From July 2 to 3 the delegation led by First Deputy Minister of Defence David Tonoyan visited Vilnius to attend the seminar on perspectives of the Eastern Partnership countries’ involvement in the EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) organized by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Lithuania which has taken the EU presidency.

The seminar was also attended by Ara Ayvazyan, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Armenia to the Republic of Lithuania. In his speech Mr. Tonoyan presented several approaches for effective use of existing opportunities in the area of defence cooperation within between Easter partner Armenia and the European Union to exclude the overlap of cooperation programs between Armenia and other International organizations, including CSTO, OSCE and NATO, and rather ensure complementarity. In particular, with reference to the National Security Strategy of the Republic of Armenia constituting engagement in regional and international integration as being in conformity with Armenian interests, it was noted that the role of cooperation with the EU will be refined in the upcoming Strategic Defense Review assumption sets planned to be carried out next year.
