Summary of the results of non-technical survey on the mine impact

On June 1, during a press conference at MoD, ``Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center`` SNCO and the representatives of the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action summed up the results of the non-technical survey conducted from November 2012 to May 2013 in the territory of the Republic of Armenia to identify the mine impact in communities.

According to HDEC director Ruben Arakelyan the 7-month-long survey included the study of mine impact, identification and mapping of contaminated areas. ``The survey was conducted in border communities, forestry and roads of national significance of 5 provinces of Armenia including Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Tavush, Gegharkunik and Ararat- overall 4255 sq km of land area with 34 723 inhabitants `` said Ruben Arakelyan. After the director`s speech, Johannes Odendaal, Project Manager of the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) in Armenia noted that according to findings some 113 confirmed and 17 suspected hazardous areas were identified. `` Also during the operations data about 264 mine victims was collected and will be submitted to the Red Cross International Committee for further coordination and support for the victims,`` said Johannes Odendale. Press conference participants also informed that the comprehensive report on the survey is to be presented to the government of the Republic of Armenia by July 15.
