They discussed issues concerning the cooperation between the two defense institutions. The parties noted with satisfaction that the Armenian-American military cooperation develops successfully as in the bilateral format as well as in the framework of NATO. Emphasizing Armenian participation in international peacekeeping operations, Celeste Wallander has highly appreciated Armenian peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. She also underlined the Armenian willingness to participate in teaching and training of the Afghan security forces. US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense assured that US will continue to support the Armenian efforts towards reforms of peacekeeping, defense, and military education. Seyran Ohanyan has thanked for expert assistance for the works for Armenia`s Strategic Defense Review. During the meeting they exchanged views on regional security and particularly on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The ARM Defense Minister noted that Armenia has always been the supporter for the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh issue and hasn`t got any interest in exacerbating the situation in the contact line of the Aremnian and Azerbaijani troops. At the same time Seyran Ohanyan expressed concern over the fact that Azerbaijan doesn`t show the same willingness on this issue and therefore ceasefire violations are being recorded regularly.
