Concluding Session of the Committee Prisoners of war, detainees and missing in action

On December 13, the concluding session of the Commission on POWs, detainees and missing in action was held at the ARM Ministry of Defense headed by the chairman of the commission ARM Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan.

The session was dedicated to discussions of work carried out in 2011 and the action plan of 2012 and the members of the Commission came up with suggestions. Despite the concern about the slow pace of the progress throughout the year, members nonetheless registered a number of positive outcomes including the repatriation of Artur Badalyan –one of the Armenian hostages being kept in Azerbaijan, and the transfer of 3 Armenian POWs to a third country. As a result of measures taken by the Armenian side one Azerbaijani POW was repatriated and another was transferred to a third country. In his closing remarks the ARM Defense Minister underscored the need to broaden and deepen the cooperation with international organizations in 2012 to ensure the return of Armenian POWS remaining in Azerbaijan. At the end of the session several members of the commission were awarded departmental medals and commendations by the decree of the ARM Defense Minister.
