CONTRACTUAL MILITARY SERVICE ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE

 

The staffing of the Armed Forces with contract servicemen is carried out in compliance with the requirements of the Armenian Law on Status of Military Service and Servicemen.

A contractual military service is a service in the Armed Forces and other troops with a contract.

Contractual military service contracts are concluded for 3-12 months, or for a term of three or five years.

The commencement and end of the contractual military service

The commencement of the contractual military service is the date on which the contract enters into force.

Military service shall be deemed completed on the day of withdrawal from the lists of personnel and allowance of the military unit (military management body) in connection with the dismissal of the serviceman from the military service.

CONTRACTUAL MILITARY SERVICE AS A PRIVATE

Males under the age 36 years, who have not previously served as contract servicemen and are registered in the reserve, as well as females, regardless of whether they are registered in the reserve can be enrolled in contractual military service as privates.

The following are not eligible for contractual service:

  • Individuals, who, in violation of the law, have not served mandatory military service;
  • Individuals, who are under criminal prosecution, or have convictions that are not erased;
  • Individuals, who are not fit for military service due to health conditions.

The signing of the contract

The initial contract for contractual military service is signed with males under the age 36 years, who have not previously served as contract servicemen and are registered in the reserve, as well as females, regardless of whether they are registered in the reserve.

The contract is signed between a Republic of Armenia citizen (serviceman) and the state authorized body in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Armenian Law on Status of Military Service and Servicemen.

Contractual servicemen are entitled to:

  • Free medical care during the military service (for themselves and their family members); monetary allowance in the amount defined;
  • Request protection of the rights and legitimate interests of their family members as prescribed by the Armenian legislation;
  • Utilize privileges, guarantees and compensations in the cases stipulated by the Armenian legislation;

Contractual servicemen have additional rights related to the peculiarities of the service and are prescribed by law.

CONTRACTUAL MILITARY SERVICE AS A SERGEANT

 

Since 2008, sergeant training courses are held in the Armed Forces; starting 2013, the duration of the courses is three months.

The sergeant training courses are open for:

  • Reservist privates under the age of 25 years, have completed mandatory military service in the Armenian Armed Forces, have secondary education, are fit for line service;
  • Servicemen, who have completed 1,5 years of service in the Armenian Armed Forces, have secondary education, are fit for line service.

The selection of candidates for sergeant training courses is done taking into account their psychological state, physical fitness, educational level, absence of convictions, as well as their compliance with the requirements for serving in the relevant military units and subdivisions of the Armed Forces.

SOCIAL AND LEGAL GUARANTEES FOR SERVICEMEN

 

Servicemen in contractual military service receive material compensation as provided for by the Armenian legislation.

Contractual servicemen are provided leaves in accordance with the provisions of the Armenian Law on Status of Military Service and Servicemen.

The social benefits to contractual servicemen are provided in accordance with the provisions of the Armenian Law on Status of Military Service and Servicemen.

Contractual servicemen are discharged from the Armenian Armed Forces in accordance with the provisions of the Armenian Law on Status of Military Service and Servicemen.
