The Visit of the Chief of the Land GS of Greece to Armenia

On 23-25 August the delegation headed by chief of the Land GS of Greece, lieutenant-general Frangos Frangulis was in Armenia on a business trip.

On the 24th of August chief of the RA AF GS, colonel-general Yuri Khachaturov received the members of the delegation. During the meeting the chief of the RA AF GS briefly introduced the RA AF structure, the reforms in process and the military-political situation in the region.

Talking about the bilateral cooperation, the chief of the RA AF GS stated that Greece is one of Armenia’s strategic partners, and that the military and military-political ties of the two countries are on a high level. At the meeting the Greek side expressed its readiness to continue its assistance in broadening the RA peacekeeping capabilities and assuring the technical saturation of the staff. On the same day the delegation headed by chief of the Land GS of Greece, lieutenant-general Frangos Frangulis was received by RA Minister of Defence Seyran Ohanyan. The charge d’affaires of Greece to the RA and the military attaché of the embassy were also present at the meeting. During the conversation, highly appreciating the military and military-political cooperation between Greece and Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan underlined the cooperation of the two countries in the fields of education, military-medicine, intelligence and peacekeeping. Greece is one of Armenia’s most important partners in its Euro-integration policy, and in this regard the development of the cooperation in military-political, security, as well as economic, cultural, etc. fields is of a strategic importance to Armenia. Besides, the relations with Greece are important for Armenia also in the frames of NATO cooperation. Seyran Ohanyan welcomed the fact that the cooperation between the two countries, which started in 1993, has taken a path of continual broadening. He mentioned that especially in the recent years the military cooperation of the two countries has covered such elements, which are applicable for such armed forces that have wide capacities for cooperation. The delegation headed by chief of the Land GS of Greece, lieutenant-general Frangos Frangulis visited the center of teaching Greek in the RA MoD Department of Staff and Military Education. There they observed the educational program and the level of technical saturation of the center. In the frames of the visit the Greek delegation also visited the RA MoD brigade of special importance, where a number of tricks related to the actions of the special importance forces were demonstrated. During the visit to Yerevan the members of the delegation headed by chief of the Land GS of Greece, lieutenant-general Frangos Frangulis visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial, respecting the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
