The Members of the UN Working Group for Arbitrary Detention visit disciplinary isolators

On the 8th of September, 2010 Deputy Minister of Defence Mr. Ara Nazaryan met the members of the UN working group for arbitrary detention, who were on a fact finding mission in Armenia. The group was headed by Judge El Hadji Malick Sow from Senegal. Representatives from ARM MoD Defence Policy Department, Investigation Service and Military Police took part in the meeting.

During the meeting issues related to the military justice, criminal and disciplinary punishments, disciplinary isolation infrastructures, activities of the disciplinary units and attorney assistance and representation were discussed. After the meeting, the members of the group, together with Chief Commandant of the ARM Military Police, visited a disciplinary isolator where they observed the present conditions of the isolators, had conversations with the military servicemen kept in the isolation cells, visited the medical aid station and had a short meeting with First Deputy Chief of the Armenian Military Police, Colonel H. Stepanyan. At the end of the visit Mr. Sow thanked the Armenian party for the hospitality and for assistance to the group’s activities. ARM MoD, Department of Information and Public Affairs
