Veteran freedom fighters visit Monte Melkonian Military School

At the initiative of the Ministry of Defence, a group of veteran freedom fighters visited on 25 February the Monte Melkonian Military School to attend the ceremonies marking the 30th anniversary of the Artsakh Movement and the 26th anniversary of the Armenian armed forces.

Prior to the start of the event, the freedom fighters joined the leadership of the Defence Ministry and the Armed Forces to participate in a service at the Haghartsin Monastery.

Armenian Defence Minister Vigen Sargsyan welcomed them during the celebrations at the Monte Melkonian Military College. He spoke about the main directions of the Armenian army modernization program, the course of large-scale reforms in the armed forces, the "Nation-Army" strategy, the details of the "I am" and "I Have the Honour" programmes, their goals and expected results. Speaking about the upcoming programmes, Sargsyan underlined that in 2018 too, the Defence Ministry will make new initiatives under the seven-year modernization programme. New projects will be implemented especially in social, educational and military industries.

At the end of the event. Minister Sargsyan handed a number of departmental awards to the freedom fighters.
