Collegium Meeting at the Armenian Ministry of Defence

On the 25th of December, 2010 a scheduled collegium meeting took place at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. During the meeting they summed up the work done in 2010 and the priorities for 2011were predefined.
In his opening speech ARM Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan stated that in 2010 the work on the main phases of the Strategic Defence Review, a number of important military documents were developed and approved, the level of public awareness on defence matters has increased dramatically in the context of defence reforms, enough modern armament and military equipment has been procured for the needs of the Armed Forces, during national and international military exercises ARM AF military units have improved their asymmetrical combat skills. It is worth mentioning that the abovementioned military exercises of 2010 were unique for night shift transitions, firing intensity and new tactical commanding scenarios.

Talking about the shortcoming recorded during the year of 2010 and particularly the incidents that received public interpretations, Mr. Ohanyan gave strict orders to commanders of a number of detachments for filling the gaps and harmonizing the officer and sergeant staffs’ service, stating that in order to ensure moral-psychological healthy atmosphere and increase discipline the repetition of former mistakes will be ruled out. Chief of the ARM AF General Staff, Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov read a report on the work done towards the combat readiness of the Armed Forces. Mr. Khachaturov indicated that in comparison with the last years, in 2010 cases of armistice violation by the enemy dramatically increased, however, our Armed Forces have adequately reacted to all the violations. Summarizing the work done in 2010, ARM Defence Minister stated that the work towards increasing efficiency in the AF will be continued under the slogan “Quality progress to the ARM AF preparedness and defence reforms”. Mr. Ohanyan awarded the best detachments of 2010 with flags of honour, and their commanders and staffs were awarded with departmental medals, certificates and gifts.
