13 July, 2016 09:39Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, who was on an official visit to the Republic of Lithuania, met with Minister of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Yuozas Olekas on July 12th.
Future prospects for bilateral cooperation in defense and the main programs undertaken as part of the individual partnership between Armenia and NATO were discussed throughout the meeting. The sides also referred to the current status of negotiations with the European Union, noting the opportunities for cooperation possible through the western partnership.
Both sides expressed the necessity of exchanging experience through Armenian-Lithuanian bilateral cooperation, as part of which representatives of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia will continue training in Lithuanian military educational institutions. Peacekeeping and cyber-security have been noted as fields with high future potential.
Both sides expressed thoughts concerning security issues of the region surrounding Lithuania and Armenia, including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Minister Ohanyan presented the situation that resulted from the aggression exhibited by Azerbaijan in early April. Minister Olekas expressed concerns about the unprecedented tension that existed in April, expressing his condolences to the fallen servicemen and civilians, noting that the conflict can be resolved only through peaceful means.
Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan met with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Linas Linkyavich on the same day.
Future cooperation between Armenia and Lithuania were discussed, and references were made to the negotiations surrounding the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs offered his aid to the peaceful resolution of the conflict through the OSCE Minsk group format.
Minister Linkyavhich also expressed the importance of the successful negotiations between taking place between European Union and Armenia.
