The inaugural ceremony Marshal Hamazasp Babajanyan’s statue was held in Yerevan

On May 23rd, RA President Serzh Sargsyan attended the opening ceremony of the statue of Hera of the Soviet Union, Chief Marshal of the USSR Armoured Troops Hamazasp Babajanyan. The statue is located in the public square adjacent to Babajanyan Street of the administrative district of Avan. The memorial was created by sculptor Hamlet Martinyan and architect Michel Missakyan.

The event was attended by RA Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan, Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, veterans of WWII, Commanding General of United States Army Europe Lieutenant-General Frederick Benjamin Hodges, Adjutant General of Kansas, Military Commander of the Kansas National Guard Major General Lee E. Tafanelli, military attachés of foreign states,

natives of Chardakhlu residing in Yerevan (Khachisarians) and other guests.

The RA President and all other attendants laid flowers on the statue and paid tribute to the memory of the great warrior.

Upon the guard of honour’s military parade, the Honorary Citizen of Yerevan, Rafael Vahanian and the Vice Chair of the Armenian Chess Federation Hovik Khalikian handed to President Sargsyan a symbolic gift – chess board which belonged to Babajanian which had been presented by the descendants of the Marshal.
