12 May, 2016 09:54
On the night of May 11th and 12th, the adversary continued to fire intermittently at Armenian border patrol situated along the northeast portion of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, using assault rifles and sniper rifles of various calibers.

The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia confidently supervise the situation, resorting to appropriate countermeasures only during targeted ceasefire violations by the adversary.

According to information received from the NKR Defence Army, starting from 19:30 on May 11, the adversary violated the ceasefire agreement using rifles, grenade launchers, and mortars of various calibers. The shooting continued until the early morning of May 12th.

As a result of responsive actions taken by the Defence Army, the adversary's actions have been repressed.

As a result of shooting by the adversary on May 11th, Armen Hrayri Martirosyan, born in 1996 and situated in the defence zone of one of the northern bases of the Defence Army, was killed due to a gunshot wound at approximately 20:00: The Ministry of Defence shares the heavy burden of the loss and offers its condolences to the family members, relatives, and fellow servicemen of the fallen soldier.

It is notable that incident took place only hours after an inspection by the OSCE mission in the Martakert region of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. This is a testament to the fact that the Azerbaijani side disregards the intermediary roles undertaken in the context of the NKR issue, and once again proves the necessity of incident investigation mechanisms.
