On February 7th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia Yuri Khachaturov, Deputy Minister of Defence Ara Nazaryan and several high ranking military officials took part in a commemoration ceremony dedicated to national hero Simon Rafiki Chavoshyan at the Fanik village of the Shirak region.

Offering his condolences to the servicemen's family members, Seyran Ohanyan noted Simon Chavoshyan's sacred heroism, without which the homeland cannot be secure. In additional to expressing words of comfort the head of the defence administration handed the serviceman's family the "Combat Service" medal, which was posthumously awarded to Simon Chavoshyan for his bravery.

Seyran Ohanyan also met and conversed with the residents of the community and the governor of the Shirak region, and visited memorials dedicated to veterans of the Second World War and the Arstakh Liberation War with the head of the Fanik community.
