Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan made an opening speech where he stressed the importance of ongoing strengthening of relations with the Diaspora, valued the Homeland-Diaspora solidarity and unity in the issue of the motherland’s security, and highlighted that the Armenian-Artsakh-Diaspora trinity keeps our country strong and unconquerable, and is able to overcome any challenge it faces. Seyran Ohanyan drew attention to two significant events for the Armenian people in 2015: the Armenian Genocide Centennial and the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War involving Armenian troops. The Minister of Defense assured the guests from the Armenian Diaspora that, for many decades the Armenian Armed Forces have accomplished their duty and today they continue to uphold a high level of performance in all their tasks, while respectively retaliating enemy attack. “We live far from Armenia, yet we live for our homeland and armenology. It is our joy to witness every success achieved by the Armenians.” Jastik Buniatyan, office manager of the Armenian Relief Society of Western USA, extended his gratitude to the Defense Minister for receiving them and assured in his turn that, for the Armenian Diaspora the preservation of the Armenian identity is their primary objective, and that representatives of the Armenian Relief Society are prepared to invest their time and resources to support Armenian soldiers. At the end of the meeting, the Defense Minister answered all questions inquired by the guests and discussed possibilities of further development for cooperation.
