Consultation at the Sports and Concert Complex
12 January, 2015 00:00On January 12, the Defense Minister held a consultation meeting with the command staff of military units under Armavir and Yerevan garrisons at K.Demirchyan sports and concert complex. The meeting was also attended by the mayor of Yerevan, marz governers and other local government and civil society representatives.
At the meeting, the Defense Minister summarized the results of 2014, noting that last year was a year of success and qualitative progress for the Armed Forces. According to the Minister consistent efforts not only ensured integrity of our borders and security of the people but also enhanced the struggle against the corrupt morals on a national level reducing acts of violence, brawls, the number suicide acts. As a result the number of accidents in the armed forces decreased by 6%, number of incidents in the wake of criminogenic phenomena decreased by 8% and crime acts causing death decreased by 50%. The Minister noted that the results were satisfactory, but the progress should be considered the beginning of a greater cause which requires doubled vigor.
There is also an increase in the level of security provision and in 2015 provision of security of the people from external aggression through combat duty performance and implementation of military tasks will remain a priority. The Defense Ministry said in particular that we shall keep implementing smart defense and conduct a policy that will require less effort to carry out greater tasks and that the path of the national armed forces testifies to this.
Under the slogan "Qualitative progress for the Armed Forces preparedness and defense reforms” announcing 2015 as a year of “Development of Combat Capabilities” the main set priorities for 2015 will include integrity building, strengthening of national traditions, fight against corruption, introduction of modernized elements of armed forces of the 21st century and enhancement of rights of the servicemembers aimed to increase the preparedness of combat readiness by promoting self-reliance and pro-activeness of the junior command staff .
The Defense Ministry also noted that in order to put an end to martinetism among commanders in 2015 the concept of Mission Command will be introduced into all levels of command and administration in the defense system to increase personal initiative and flexibility in decision making. At the same time one of the objectives associated with the concept is to always be one step ahead of the enemy.
The session ended with an award ceremony. Several servicemembers, representatives of local governments and other officials who demonstrated outstanding, conscientious and exemplary performance and also contributed into enhancement of interoperability and armed forces development were awarded agency medals and gifts. The mayor of the city of Yerevan was awarded by the Minster of Defense with souvenir daggers.
