The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia encourages athlete soldiers
8 November, 2014 00:00On Saturday, RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan awarded with certificates, departmental medals and valuable gifts athlete servicemen who have achieved significant success this year in prestigious international sporting events.
Representatives of the senior staff of the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces and the General Staff of the Armed Forces, as well as the athletic domain, attended the meeting held in the administrative complex of the RA Ministry of Defense.
The RA MoD Head of the Department of Information and Public Affairs, Vardan Avetisyan made an opening speech and confidently stated that 2014 has been a year of brilliant victories for the Armed Forces in the sphere of combat training and border protection, as well as in the field of reputable international competition areas.
The Head of Combat Training Department of the Physical Training Division, Colonel Aram Grigoryan proudly stated in his speech that Armenian athlete servicemen presently have a strong record of success in world and European championships, and other international competitions. The 55 gold, 26 silver and 17 bronze medals acquired this year alone by the collective teams of the Ministry of Defense serve as evidence to their brilliant achievements. Moreover, 3 soldiers were granted with the international title of Master of Sport and 2 others with the title of Grandmaster.
Armenia’s Greco-Roman wrestling coach, Olympic champion Levon Julfalakyan and conscript soldier- world champion of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Military Championships held in the USA – Karapet Chalyan, also gave speeches of gratitude.
Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan presented certificates of honor, MoD medals, and valuable gifts to the athlete servicemen who won awards at the world youth wrestling and sambo championships.
In his closing remarks, the Defense Minister underscored the role of sports and physical training in the Armed Forces, and in terms of the overall training of the military servicemen.
Mr. Seyran Ohanyan also expressed the hope that the national flag of Armenia will continue to wave in next year’s international sports tournaments.
