Ceremony dedicated to Teacher’s Day at the administrative building of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia

On 7 October an official ceremony dedicated to Teacher’s Day took place at the administrative building of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence Seyran Ohanyan, representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, executives of the education sector, school principals, active and distinguished retired teachers, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Armenia.

In his opening speech, the Head of Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Vardan Avetisyan noted that Teacher’s Day is one of the most cherished holidays and that everyone bears numerous memories associated with school. In addition, every officer is also a mentor to the soldiers of the platoon entrusted upon him. “We thank you for those pupils that you have educated and trained who, upon joining the Armenian Army, impregnably defend the borders of our homeland.” In his welcoming speech, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan noted that the celebration of this holiday has become a good tradition at the Ministry of Defence. “This day is highly symbolic for our Armed Forces in that the Ministry of Defence is in itself a great educational system, with education, training and discipline at its basis. Our servicemen put into practice the knowledge still gained during their school years to strengthen the efficiency of the Armed Forces and take advantage of that knowledge in the course of their daily activities in order to gain the appropriate combat skills, as well as to perform the tasks entrusted upon the Armed Forces”. The Head of Defence informed those present that the Ministry of Defence has organised and promoted 21 programes and approximately seventy major events in the framework of the collaboration between schools and the Army in the course of the past nine months. Such events consist of visits to places of military glory and historical and cultural monuments, as well as to military compounds and participation in numerous formats of knowledge promotion programes and military sports events. Executives of the education sector and schoolteachers also held speeches. At the end of the ceremony the Minister of Defence Seyran Ohanyan awarded the participants of the event with medals, valuable gifts and diplomas for their contribution in promoting national and patriotic values amongst the younger generation, as well as on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. During the festive event, the presence of previous students currently serving in the Armed Forces of Armenia amongst their teachers was highly significant.
