The Meetings of the ARM Defence Minister in Brussels

On 11 March, in the framework of the visit to the NATO Central Headquarters, ARM Minister of Defence Seyran Ohanyan had meetings with his colleagues and the military leaders of NATO.

Particularly, during the meetings with Georgian Defence Minister B. Akhalayay and Polish Defence Minister B. Klich issues concerning bilateral defense cooperation were discussed. Then the matters about participation of the Armenian units in the NATO-led multinational operations were discussed with the Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe Admiral J. Stavridis and the Commander of Afghanistan International Security Assistance Forces, Army General D. Petreus. During the meeting of the ministers of the countries participating in the activities of NATO in Afghanistan which was held at the same day, ARM Defence Minister made a speech expressing optimism in the activities of NATO in Afghanistan and emphasized the importance of the continuous cooperation of 48 countries participating in the efforts of establishing security in Afghanistan. The Defense Minister underlined the necessity of cautious and smooth transfer of responsibility from multinational forces in Afghanistan to Afghan national security forces as for the assurance of the security of the people of Afghanistan, at the same time he expressed satisfaction with the received information concerning the quantitative and qualitative growth of Afghan national security forces.
