On April 15,2008 RA President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on appointing Lieutenant-General Yuri Khachaturov the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, First Deputy Defense Minister, dismissing him from the position of the Deputy Defense Minister.

According to another presidential decree, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, First Deputy Defense Minister was conferred the rank of Colonel-General.
