An extraordinary sitting of the CSTO Council of Defence Ministers took place
13 January, 2022 18:43On January 13, an extraordinary sitting of the Council of Defence Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization was held via videoconference.
The sitting was chaired by the Chairman of the CSTO Council of Defence Ministers, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, it was attended by the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation general of the army Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Belarus lieutenant general Viktor Khrenin, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan lieutenant general Murat Bektanov, Minister of Defence of the Kyrgyz Republic major general Baktybek Bekbolotov, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Tajikistan colonel general Sherali Mirzo, head of the Joint Staff of the CSTO colonel general Anatoly Sidorov, deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Takhir Khairuloev and commander of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CSTO in the Republic of Kazakhstan colonel general Andrei Serdov.

During the sitting, the CSTO Defence Ministers discussed the results of the peacekeeping operation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the issues of ensuring regional security and improving the rapid response mechanisms to emerging threats.
Following the results of the extraordinary sitting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Defence, the heads of the defence departments signed a joint decision of the CSTO Council of Defence Ministers "On organizing the return of peacekeeping units of the CSTO member states from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the points of permanent deployment."
