Nikolay Ryzhkov

Nikolay Ryzhkov was born on 28 September 1929 in Dileyevka village (Artyomovsky district, Ukraine). Famous party figure and statesman. He graduated from Ural Polytechnic Institute. In 1965-1970, he was the chief engineer, in 1970-1971, the director, and from 1971, the general director of Uralmash. In 1975-1979, Ryzhkov was First Deputy Minister of Heavy and Machinery Industry of the USSR; in 1979-1982, First Deputy President of the USSR Gosplan, in 1982-85, he was CPSU Central Committee secretary; in 1985-1990, Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers. Since 1998, he is the head of the Coordinating Council that supports the domestic producers, which unites more than 130 unions and associations. In 1995 and 1999, he was elected a member of the Russian State Duma. In 2003, he was appointed as the representative of the Belgorod region at the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly. He was awarded with Order For Service to Homeland of 4th degree; Lenin Order (2), the October Revolution Order, the Red Banner of Labor Order (2) and the Order of Patriotic War of 1st degree. He was also awarded the USSR State Prize (2). In 1998, his statue was erected in Spitak. National Hero of of Armenia (5.12.2008). He was awarded the highest Hayrenik Order of the Republic of Armenia.
