Armenian Armed Forces athletes win medals in international tournaments

The Greco-Roman Wrestling team of the Armenian Armed Forces participated in the 33th World Wrestling Championship, held in Moscow on 14-20 May and organised by the International Military Sports Council (CISM).

The Championship, which was attended by Olympics, World and European champions, involved 153 athletes from 22 countries. The Armenian delegation included 9 athletes. The team was headed by Honoured Coach of Armenia, Master of international sports, USSR champion, Head Coach of Armenian Youth Greco-Roman wrestling team Armen Babalaryan.

The Armenian athletes won one gold medal (Rudik Mkrtchyan, 55kg weight category), one silver medal (Aslan Poghosyan, 67kg weight category) and three bronze medals (Ararat Manucharyan, 60kg weight class, Armen Hakobyan, 72kg weight class, Eduard Sargsyan, 82kg category).

Gurgen Sahakyan, a referee of the first international category, who was in the Armenian team, won the title of the tournament’s best referee.
