NATO advisory group visits Armenia

NATO's Defence Education Development Group, was formed to support the needs of Armenia, began its visit to Yerevan on March 20. The group comprises experts from the NATO headquarters, Canada, Czech Republic, Poland and Lithuania military educational institutions.

The goal of the visit is to finalize the cooperation programs implemented with MOD Personnel and Military Education Department and military educational institutions in 2017, and coordinating further cooperation.

During the meeting in the A Ministry of Defence, the members of the group were briefed on the reforms in the military education. The reports focused on issues related to reviewing the curricula, training of the teaching staff, introducing new teaching methodologies, as well as legislative initiatives in military education and the implementation of the Bologna Process of the European Higher Military Education.

Between March 21 and 23, the Advisory Group visited military educational institutions, meetings with the top management of the educational institutions and those in charge of the educational process. In particular, during the meetings held at the Vazgen Sargsyan Military University, the Armenak Khanperaryants Military Aviation University and Ministry of Defence School of junior officers, the process of individual projects initiated with the assistance of the Advisory Group and the best recommendations to meet the future cooperation requirements of the armed forces were presented.

The advisory group lectured the MOD Command and Staff Training Personnel and students on "Basics of Western Military Art. Comparative Analysis of Western and Soviet Models ."

At the MOD National Defence Research University, its head, Lt. Gen. Hayk Kotanjyan and others presented the main works carried out by the University in 2017, in particular, the main outcomes of the 4-week internship training course conducted in October-November 2017, as well as the inter-departmental 8-week training course, developed by the University. The NATO experts delivered a lecture on "Strategic Leadership in Interdepartmental Collaboration Environment."

NATO's Defence Education Development Group also paid familiarization visits to the Monte Melkonian Military College.
